Swimming - Take 2

Just an update on the swimming lessons. This week - not as good as last week. Munchkin lasted about 3 minutes in the pool before she decided she had enough. She was happy to play around on the pool deck for a couple of minutes but wanted nothing to do with getting back in the water.
Turns out she was really overtired. We left the class early and she was in bed as soon as we got home (by 6:30). She wouldn't even let us put pj's on her. She fell asleep in her diaper so we just covered her up with blankets.

Weekend Pics

Here's what happens when you ask her to show you her belly button. She then comes over to you and asks to see yours and wants to poke it. It's cute so you pull up your shirt to let her, of course.

She was wondering around with a bag of crackers. I thought she was just snacking. Then I realized she had put a handful of them on the couch next to Winston. She then started to feed him directly. This dog has it made - he doesn't even have to get off the couch!!

Breakfast - apple sauce and cereal.

She does this big toothy grin a lot now and I just looooove it.

Sleep Secret

I have a confession to make.
We're co-sleeping again (gasp!!).

I'm really not sure how this happened. At first, it was just happening every once in a while, when Madeline would wake up in the night. It was just easier to bring her into bed with us. She would quickly drift off to sleep between us until the morning.
Then that started to happen EVERYNIGHT. She'd go to bed around 7pm and wake up around 2pm and the inevitable transfer to our bed would be made. It was just easier than letting her cry herself back to sleep.

Well, she must have caught on to how this works. Over the holidays she began protesting being in her crib at all! The only place she would stop crying was in our bed. She actually would point to our room when we came in to check on her.

For the past 2 weeks we've been letting her cry herself to sleep at 7pm (usually takes 30+ minutes). When she wakes up again, usually around 9pm, we put her in our bed and she falls right back to sleep. And there she stays until the morning. I just can't handle having her cry in her crib for another hour at that point.

Based on the books I've read, I'm pretty sure this is doing us no good. I know that it's teaching her bad habits. We're not allowing her to teach herself to fall back to sleep on her own. But honestly, at 2am in the morning, I just don't have the strength to hear her scream "mamma" for over an hour.
So for now, I'm just going to enjoy the easy road and cherish our co-sleeping days. In the back of my mind I know that I need to dedicate a week or two to some serious sleep training. I'm just not ready to face it yet.
If anyone is looking for a great book about sleep for babies, toddlers and children, I highly recommend Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby. It's a great resource that explains the sleep patterns of babies at different ages and then teaches you how to help your kids to be amazing sleepers at each stage. If you read the book, you'll know that everything I seem to be doing is NOT the best way to go about this. I've even gone back to read the book again recently just to double check. Yep, not right. But when I do decide to get us back on track, I'll be referencing this book again.

Our Little Telus Fan

So I do believe I've mentioned the Little Lady's fascination with hippos, no? Specifically the hippos from the Telus commercials. Well, she's become a bit obsessed with watching the commercials on our computers. She can't even walk by my laptop without pointing at it and demanding her "po".
We've since branched out to explore the other Telus animal commercials. She saw the image of the animals on the youtube page and kept pointing to them until we would finally click on one. She's about thisclose to figuring out how to work the mouse herself so that she can watch what she wants. At first I was against this, but I now think that it would be easier if she could just operate the computer herself.
Here she is watching a Telus commercial.....you can tell which animals are in the commercial because Madeline makes the animal sounds when they come on the screen. My favourite part: when she tries to tickle the animals.

Christmas Mornin'

This was our first Christmas morning where we woke up in our house as the 3 of us. You may recall last year we had Michael's family stay with us on Christmas Eve. That was great (of course!) but there was also something really nice about having Madeline all to ourselves this year. Here are some pictures from first thing in the morning.
Wearing her new "Christmas PJ's"....entering the living room to see that Santa had come.
She spots a new play house by the Christmas tree....
.....and heads straight for it. She didn't say anything or even look at us. She just went straight for the houe and started to play with it.
Then we showed her her stocking.....

This Strawberry Shortcake doll was responsible for the look in the picture above. She was VERY excited to check it out.
More pictures from later in the day to come....
