Meeting Dora

Last week Madeline and I took the morning to go meet her friend Dora at the CN Tower. Mega Brands had invited us down for a Meet and Greet and a special tour. Above, you'll see that Maddy had no fear when it came to walking on the glass floor of the Tower. Below, Maddy meets Dora. I think she was mostly interested in meeting Backpack. She kept singing "Backpack, backpack". I was thankful Dora had brought Backpack. (for those of you not familiar with the show....Backpack is a character, but he's also an actual backpack).

New Kitchen

Someone got a kitchen on the weekend and it wasn't me! I've been talking about gettin Madeline a kitchen to play with for about 6 months now. I was going to get her one for Christmas but we didn't think she was old enough. She proved me wrong when we visited her friend Kate in December and the only thing she would play with was the kitchen (she played with it for about an hour and half, without stopping).
So ever since then I've been watching TRU to see if it goes on sale. I finally gave up (it never seems to actually go on sale) and pulled the trigger on the weekend. I knew the weather was going to be crappy, so it seemed like the perfect weekend project.
I debated between 2 different models. The first was this one. It's the same price but it's made out of wood. I liked the look of it and the fact that it was wood, not plastic. The only problem with it was that it didn't "feel" like a real kitchen. For example, the "oven" just felt like a wood door that opened up to an empty space. Plus, it didn't come with any accessories, so we'd have to buy those as well.
So we opted for version 2, which is the one you see in the pictures above. This kitchen came with lots of "extras"....pots and pans, utensils etc. It also has a bunch of working buttons and sound effects. For example, the stove lights up and makes different noises when you put a pot on the burner.
Michael put the whole thing together in about 2.5 hours. He seemed quite happy to do so in the solitude of the basement. I think he was just really excited to finish it and see Mads play with it. I think he was pleased with her reaction. She was literally panting when she saw it. She played with it all weekend long. She would tell us she "cook" and "hot" (as in make things hot in the microwave). She mostly moves all the pieces around - from the sink to the oven to the cupboards. Sometimes she'll put things on the stove. Or she'll "wash" her hands in the sink. She also makes important calls on the portable phone....

Here she is about to "wash".....
"hot"....

Mini Me

I traded in my blackberry for a shiny new iPhone. Someone thinks it's the best thing to happen since Dora the Explorer. I've downloaded about 5 or 6 toddler apps on the phone and each morning she asks to play with it before she gets out of bed. It's actually become quite the handy tool to have with me when I need to distract her for 5 minutes....waiting in the car, airport lineups, etc. Her fav apps are anything by Duck Duck Moose -they create interactive storybooks (Itsy Bitsy Spider, Wheels on the Bus).

First PB&J Sandwich

Made Mads her first PB&J sammie last week. It was a hit. She really enjoyed taking it apart and just licking the PB.

I think something pissed her off here....

She's wearing one of her new Mini Mioche tops here. Once the weather is warmer I'll share more pics of her in her Mini Mioche clothes. I recieved some items from their Spring lineup and it's just super cute. All the clothes are 100% organic cotton and made in Toronto AND the stuff just looks so comfortable. I'll share more later but you can check it out at minimioche.com

Back from Florida

So you may have been wondering where the blog updates have been!?! Well, we took a little family get-away to Florida! We returned this week, but I've been busy catching up with work. Sorry 'bout that. So I've included some pictures from our trip. For Madeline, this was a trip of many firsts....first airplane ride, first trip to disney, first time sitting on an alligator. We were just outside of Orlando, staying in a house my Mom and Aunt have rented. My brother Matt and sister Jenny were also there so there was lots of family togetherness! The weather, as you may have heard, was not incredible. It was cold for 4 out of the 7 days. Our last 3 days there it was warm enough to swim. We kept busy though with lots of day trips and outings. My favourite was our trip to Gatorland.

Here's Mads at Gatorland, riding the gator:

Her first trip to the beach! We took a 2 day road trip to Clearwater. It was cold at the beach!

Her first time at Disney World! We spent the day there with Matt and Jenny. Here we are riding It's a Small World. Classic.

Breakfast with Daddy:

As you can see here, it did get really warm. Swim time:

More Gatorland fun:
