ahh the playpen

When my little brother was born, I was about 10 years old so I remember bits and pieces of his early years. Changing his diapers, helping him learn to ride a bike....there was a time my sisters and I lost him at Santa's Village. Many fragmented memories. The one thing that I remember very clearly was Matt playing in his playpen. That thing was parked in our living room from the time he was 2 months old until he learned to crawl out of it. I'm not sure if it's a generational thing, but none of my friends with babies seem to use a playpen (or, playard as they're now called....perhaps "pen" made moms uncomfortable, as if they are caged animals. That sounds like something my generation would be offended by). Most of us have one of these contraptions, but they're only pulled out to use as cribs when traveling or at the cottage.
So now that Mad is crawling, I thought it might be a good idea to put one up in our living room. That way, our nanny can be in the kitchen and not have to worry about what she's getting into when she can't see her. So I set the playpen up this evening and gave it a little test drive. I thought Mad would rebel against the idea of the fenced in walls of mesh. But she didn't. She laughed and played as she normally does. I think, maybe, that she even liked the idea of "her space". But maybe I'm projecting my thoughts on her with that statement.
So here are some pics.

Enjoy
